Joel Ong spoke at the Pre-University Law Symposium 2024 held at Hwa Chong Institution (College Section)


Joel Ong, CIL Research Assistant, spoke at the Pre-University Law Symposium 2024 held at Hwa Chong Institution (College Section), on 14 May 2024, organised by the Law Societies of Hwa Chong Institution, Raffles Institution, and Dunman High School. 

He shared the Expert Panel with Mr Alexander Joseph Woon Wei-Ming (Lecturer at Singapore University of Social Sciences and former Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney-General’s Chambers) and Mr Joel Chng (Partner, WongPartnership LLP).

The seminar aimed to inspire and facilitate inter-school interactions and exchanges of unique ideas and perspectives between Pre-University Youths on their shared passion for the Law.

As the HC Alumni representative, Joel Ong presented on ‘An Introduction to Maritime Law Careers in Singapore’. He shared about the maritime industry and its vital importance to Singapore, including on the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention (UNCLOS) and its relevance to some of the latest events impacting the maritime sector as it relates to Singapore’s interests, as well as the types of maritime careers (law or otherwise) which lie ahead for the students.
