CIL Senior Research Fellow Dr. Mohammad Hazrati has co-authored a chapter titled “Social License to Operate: Embracing Energy Justice,” published in The Palgrave Handbook of Social License to Operate and Energy Transitions. The chapter explores how the core principles of energy justice—distributive, procedural, recognition, and restorative—can support both the achievement and long-term sustainability of a Social License to Operate (SLO). These principles address fairness in decision-making, equitable distribution of benefits, meaningful community engagement, and redress for past injustices—thereby fostering trust and aligning energy initiatives with the needs of affected communities.
