Dr. Jon Truby participated as a speaker in the online Roundtable on Designing Sustainable AI for a Sustainable Future, hosted by Surrey Law School and the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI. His presentation on “‘Sustainability by Design in AI’ and the role of International Governance” formed part of Panel 3, which aimed to generate a future legal research agenda on Sustainable AI.

The session brought together international scholars to critically assess how AI’s lifecycle intersects with environmental degradation and social justice concerns. The roundtable also questioned the adequacy of current legal frameworks to address the environmental and human rights implications of AI.
