Dr Jon Truby attended the 2025 United Nations Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum (UNRBHR 2025) in Bangkok with the support of the NUS Centre for International Law. The Forum, co-organised by UNDP, ILO, IOM, OHCHR, UNICEF, UN Women, UNEP, and the UN Working Group on Business & Human Rights, brought together governments, business leaders, civil society and UN agencies to explore actionable solutions at the intersection of business, human rights, and sustainable development.
This year’s theme, “Anchoring Progress and Strengthening Regional Leadership on Human Rights through Crisis”, guided discussions on human rights due diligence, climate justice, digital risks and responsible business conduct in times of uncertainty. In particular, sessions addressed the impact of artificial intelligence and algorithmic governance on human rights, from surveillance concerns to the need for transparent and rights-based approaches to digital governance.
The Forum also provided a valuable platform to engage with leading UN agencies and regional experts on issues such as forced labour, living wages, ethical recruitment, and the broader challenges of ensuring accountability in complex global supply chains. These discussions reinforced the importance of strengthening regional leadership and embedding human rights into economic and technological transitions.
