‘Hybrid Global Governance for Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence: Proposing a New Sustainable Development Goal 18’ (Technology in Society)

CIL’s Dr Jon Truby has co-authored a new open-access article in the journal ‘Technology in Society’ entitled ‘Hybrid Global Governance for Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence: Proposing a New Sustainable Development Goal 18.’
The article proposes a new SDG 18 dedicated to responsible and inclusive AI governance and uses the SDGs as a politically feasible, soft-law vehicle to support international cooperation on AI. It offers an innovative approach to aligning AI with sustainability and integrates principles-based, rights-based, risk-based and ethics-based international governance frameworks, providing a structured pathway for states and international organisations to embed AI oversight within existing public international law architecture.
