CIL Research Fellow Dr Su Wai Mon Spoke at the NATO Maritime Situational Awareness Working Group Meeting hosted by the NATO MARSEC COE via Zoom, 15 October 2025

Su delivered a presentation on “Enhancing Maritime Situational Awareness: Addressing Emerging Cyber Threats and Future Challenges,” where she underscored cybersecurity as an increasingly significant maritime security threat. She discussed the impacts of cyber-attacks on critical maritime infrastructure and highlighted the existing legal and regulatory gaps that complicate effective responses. As the maritime sector moves toward greater digitalization and automation, Su emphasized the need for a holistic, multi-domain approach to maritime security—one that integrates land, sea, air, and space considerations, particularly given the growing reliance on satellite communications for maritime navigation and connectivity.
