Amanda Wee Spoke at the 2nd International Energy and Climate Law Forum Held at the University of Oslo

CIL Ocean Law & Policy Research Assistant Amanda Wee spoke at the 2nd International Energy and Climate Law Forum held at the University of Oslo on 11 June 2026. She spoke in Session II (Carbon Capture and Storage) on intergenerational equity and offshore geological carbon storage. Her presentation highlighted the importance and relevance of intergenerational equity as a principle guiding the international legal framework comprising of the London Protocol in governing offshore carbon storage, which would address the temporal aspects of such carbon storage that stretches into the lives of future generations. Translating intergenerational equity into law would entail a better precautionary approach to such carbon storage, the development of a robust liability framework, consideration as to the equitable access by future generations to uses of the sub-seabed, and obligations on States to monitor and report offshore storage activities and storage sites.
