CIL Research Fellow Su Wai Mon presented at the 5th Maritime Security Conference: The Impact of Technology on Maritime Security, hosted by the NATO Maritime Security Centre of Excellence (MARSEC COE) in Istanbul from 24–25 June 2025.

Her presentation, titled Maritime Cybersecurity: Addressing Regulatory Challenges and the Imperative for International Collaboration, focused on cybersecurity threats to critical maritime infrastructure—including ships, ports, and offshore facilities—and the potential implications of cyberattacks on these systems.

She highlighted the evolving regulatory landscape, including IMO resolutions and maritime cyber risk management guidelines, IACS Unified Requirements, and industry best practices. Despite these developments, she emphasized the need for a more uniform global regulatory framework.

Su identified key challenges and offered recommendations to advance maritime cybersecurity, underscoring the importance of close collaboration and coordination among governments, international organizations, the maritime industry, and academia at the national, regional, and international levels.
