Denise Cheong and Nivedita S Participate in Singapore International Energy Week 2024

Head of Energy Law & Policy Denise Cheong and Research Fellow Nivedita S participated in several events at the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2024, a week-long event held from 21 - 25 October 2024 in Singapore. These included the Singapore-International Energy Agency (IEA) Ministerial Forum which saw the launch of (i) the IEA Regional Cooperation Centre at SIEW 2024 to help foster regional cooperation on energy security, sustainability, and technology innovation; and (ii) the IEA’s Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2024.  The award of a 30-year Conditional Approval to Sun Cable (Singapore) Assets Pte Ltd to import 1.75 gigawatt (GW) of low-carbon electricity from Australia into Singapore was also announced at this forum. Events also included the Singapore-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) High-Level Forum where the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on the Energy Transition of the Maritime and Port Industries was signed. Under the MoU, MPA and IRENA will bring together their expertise in renewable energy and maritime innovation to promote knowledge exchange and best practices across the maritime and energy industries, focusing on clean energy infrastructure and supply chains for zero and near-zero emission fuel.
