Head of Energy Law and Policy Denise Cheong and Research Fellow Nivedita S were invited to participate in the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP) Nuclear Energy Experts Group meeting held from 18 to 20 March 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Denise and Nivedita presented CIL’s research on legal and institutional issues relating to floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs) and nuclear-powered ships (NPSs). Denise presented the status of the international nuclear liability regime and its potential applicability to floating nuclear power plants and nuclear-powered ships, including highlighting gaps and the way forward. Nivedita presented the international legal regime governing security threats concerning FNPPs and NPSs and provided an assessment of how the nuclear and maritime regimes are interacting to govern such threats.
