19 March 2025: Head of Energy Law & Policy Denise Cheong and Research Fellow S Nivedita Present in Maritime Nuclear Applications Group Meeting
Head of Energy Law and Policy Denise Cheong and Research Fellow Nivedita S were invited to virtually present and participate in the Maritime Nuclear Applications Group (MNAG) quarterly meeting held on 19 March 2025. Denise and Nivedita's presentation, "Governing the Dicephalus Beast – Legal & Institutional Issues Relating to Floating Nuclear Power Plants", shared findings from CIL's research on legal and institutional issues relating to floating nuclear power plants (FNPPs). The aim of this research was to (i) identify a 'baseline' of instruments comprising instruments from both the nuclear and maritime domains that would apply to FNPPs if deployment were to take place today; (ii) assess the nature of interactions between the instruments of both domains, providing further clarity on the baseline; and (iii) identify institutional mechanisms across both domains that can help address governance issues of concern.
