Dr Jon Truby participated in The Eighth South-East Asia Multi-Stakeholder Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), held in Bangkok from November 11-14, 2024, gathered representatives from governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector to evaluate progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The forum’s special AI session examined the role of artificial intelligence in sustainable development. This session introduced practical AI applications for improving work efficiency and digital connectivity, particularly in underserved areas. Participants explored AI’s potential for generating content, analysing data, and enhancing communication, though they also voiced concerns about data privacy, ethical AI use, and the risk of AI increasing social inequality. The discussions highlighted the need for ethical guidelines and policies to ensure that AI advancements align with the SDGs, promoting inclusivity and equitable access to its benefits across Southeast Asia.
