CIL Research Fellow Liu Yulu participated in the 12th Frontiers in Environmental Law Colloquium, held in Melbourne, Australia, from 4 to 6 February 2026.

Yulu spoke in Session 8B, “Governing Seas under International and National Laws.” Her presentation discussed the management of ghost gear, with a focus on plastic pollution from small-scale fisheries in the future global plastics treaty. The session was moderated by Elizabeth Sheargold (Monash University) and also included Shushmita Ahmed (University of Technology Sydney), Kate Jama (Melbourne Law School), and Elizabeth Macpherson (University of Canterbury). The speakers covered topics including deep seabed mining, Australia’s Seas and Submerged Lands Act, and justice and equity in marine and coastal law.

The Colloquium was co-organised by the University of Melbourne and Monash University, in association with the Australian National Environmental Law Association.
