Liu Yulu participated in the Regional Workshop on the BBNJ Agreement for Northeast and Southeast Asia by DOALOS and ESCAP, in Bangkok, 16-20 September 2024.

She presented in the session on discussing the relations between regional bodies and the BBNJ Agreement, where she was later joined by 6 representatives from regional bodies (COBSEA, NOWPAP, IOC-WESTPAC, ACB, PICES and PEMSEA) for the panel discussion. She also moderated the panel discussion.

This workshop was one of DOALOS's series of workshops on enhancing states' understanding of the BBNJ Agreement and promoting the signing and ratification of the BBNJ Agreement, and Northeast and Southeast Asia was their second stop in this series (the previous one was in the Pacific). With the government official being the targeted audience of the workshop, the discussions about the BBNJ Agreement focused on the Agreement text, the opportunities and challenges for states becoming parties to the Agreement, and what roles existing international and regional frameworks and bodies can play in this context.
