Liu Yulu from the CIL Ocean Law and Policy Programme participated in the third workshop on Biogeographic Regionalisation for the Indian Ocean from 25 to 27 March 2024 at the Australian High Commission in Singapore. The workshop was organised by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as the lead coordinator, in collaboration with the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Secretariat and the Australian Government Departments of Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water (DCCEEW) and Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Participants discussed the mapping of regional biogeography in the Indian Ocean, as well as explored ways forward for IORA member states regarding the implementation of area-based management tools in the BBNJ Agreement.
