MFA-JICA Law of the Sea and Climate Change Course, Novotel Hotel On Stevens, 20-24 January 2025

On 20-24 January 2025, the Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore delivered a course on the Law of the Sea and Climate Change, promoted by the Singapore Cooperation Programme (Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, for participants from 17 countries in Africa and the Asia-Pacific.

The participants had a busy — but very fruitful! — week.  The course provided participants with a background on the impacts of climate change and response measures on the oceans and how international law, in particular, the law of the sea as reflected in UNCLOS, can be used to tackle climate change and its impacts on the oceans.

The programme included interactive seminars, a learning journey to the Singapore Maritime Gallery, a bonding exercise at the Gardens by the Bay, and participation in CIL’s International Law Year in Review Conference.
