Nivedita S presented at INLA Congress 2024

Research Fellow, Nivedita S participated in the 25th Biennial Congress of the International Nuclear Law Association (INLA), held in Warsaw Poland from 3 to 7 November 2024. The Congress was based on the theme: “Nuclear New Build Renaissance – In Search for New Approaches to Legal Challenges and Regulatory Effectiveness,” where discussions explored current and future legal issues impacting nuclear power.

Nivedita presented as part of Working Group 2 on nuclear liability and insurance’s panel in Session 8 on: Balancing Responsibility and Risk: Nuclear Liability and Insurance. Her presentation, entitled From Oil to Nuclear: Developing Nuclear Compensation Systems through a Values Lens”, was co-authored with Head of Energy Law and Policy, Denise Cheong. Drawing on research undertaken by the CIL Nuclear Law & Policy Team as part of a project that ended last year, her presentation shared learnings from the international claims-handling system for oil pollution damage that contribute towards a conceptual framework for the development of normative guidance to address the challenge of transboundary claims-handling within the nuclear context.

Further details of this congress are available on INLA’s Conference page and programme.
