CIL research fellow Su Wai Mon was invited by the UNODC as a consultant for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Strategic Workshop for Lieutenant Commanders, held from 9-12 September 2024 at the Pulse Grande Hotel, Putrajaya. Su provided insights into the international and domestic legal frameworks governing maritime security in Malaysia, engaging participants in interactive discussions aimed at overcoming key challenges faced by the Malaysian Coastguard in maritime law enforcement. The sessions also addressed emerging cybersecurity threats in the maritime domain, underscoring the crucial role of Coastguards in safeguarding against such risks. Su further facilitated scenario-based exercises to deepen understanding of enforcement jurisdictions within both international and national legal frameworks in addressing various maritime security threats.
