Visit to the MPA POCC for student of International Regulation of Shipping on 14 March 2025

The National University of Singapore Centre for International Law organized a visit to the Maritime Port Authority, Port Operation and Control Centre on Friday, 14 March 2025. The visit aimed to give NUS students practical exposure to international shipping regulations and brief them on real-time port operations. The briefing was made by Captain Shafwan of the MPA, and included information on Geographical coverage and delineation in the Singapore Strait, Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS), Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS), the STRAITREP operational area, and Maritime Search and Rescue.

After the briefing, the students visited the viewing deck of the command-and-control center, where they were briefed about the vessel monitoring and reporting mechanisms on real-time basis.

Finally, the visit concluded with a group photo after an active discussion with the students about the real-time monitoring and tracking of ships by the MPA.
