Article 20: “1. This Convention shall enter into force on the ninetieth day following the date of deposit of the fourth instrument of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession. 2. For each State ratifying, accepting, approving or acceding to the Convention after the deposit of the fourth instrument, the Convention shall enter into force on the ninetieth day after deposit by such State of its instrument.” |

The Convention is specific to States which have coastlines on the North Sea, the Baltic Sea or that part of the Atlantic Ocean to the north of 36o North latitude (Article 18). There are 6 signatories to the Convention: the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. |
