CIL is pleased to announce that H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, a member of CIL’s International Advisory Panel and Deputy Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Resources of Indonesia, has been nominated as a judge to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) by the government of the Republic of Indonesia.
ITLOS is an independent judicial body set up by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to adjudicate disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention. The tribunal is composed of 21 independent members, elected from among persons recognized for their fairness, integrity and competence in the field of the law of the sea. The selection of ITLOS judges will be conducted in 2017. The tribunal is based in Hamburg, Germany.
