The Law of the Sea and Disruptive Protests Against Deep Seabed Mining: The MV Coco Events


Research Associate Eduardo Cavalcanti de Mello Filho published a piece in Opinio Juris titled “The Law of the Sea and Disruptive Protests against Deep Seabed Mining: The MV Coco events.”

He covered the recent events concerning Greenpeace protests on the high seas against the MV Coco, a research ship that was exploring the international seabed Area. In particular, he analysed whether protests at sea, as part of the freedom of navigation, can interfere with the exercise of rights with respect to activities in the Area.
