Research Associate Eduardo Cavalcanti de Mello Filho has published the article titled ‘The Normative Porosity of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea: From “Human Rights at Sea” to “Ocean-Climate Nexus”’ in the Minnesota Journal of International Law.
Developing his master’s dissertation, Eduardo comprehensively examines the gateways through which the interpretation and application of the Law of the Sea Convention can be influenced by external rules of international law. He initially theorises the ‘porosity’ of the Convention vis-à-vis these rules to then analyse the specific operations of renvoi provisions, systemic interpretation, and systemic integration in the context of the Convention.
