Trung Nguyen gave a presentation at the 12th Regional Maritime Security Practitioner Programme (RMPP)


CIL Research Fellow, Trung Nguyen, recently gave a presentation at the 12th Regional Maritime Security Practitioner Programme (RMPP), held by the Information Fusion Centre (IFC) and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), from July 22 to 26, 2024. The 12th RMPP brings together maritime security practitioners from regional and extra-regional navies, coastguards, maritime and enforcement agencies, and the shipping community to facilitate exchange of views and perspectives on maritime security issues.

On its fourth day, Dr. Trung Nguyen gave a presentation on “”Threats of the Dark fleet to the Maritime Safety and Security: What Can Coastal States Do?” In his presentation, he highlighted the heightening risk of the dark fleet to the region, elaborated on the applicable international regulations, and proposed cooperation mechanism for the littoral states of the Strait of Mallaca and Singapore to address this challenge. He also participated in the follow-up Panel discussion on emerging maritime security threats in the region.
