Dr Jon Truby appointed UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence Law and Sustainability
Dr Jon Truby, who leads Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology law research at the Centre for International Law (CIL), National University of Singapore (NUS), has been appointed Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair on AI Law and Sustainability under UNESCO’s UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme.
The appointment recognises Dr Truby’s work on AI governance and sustainability and strengthens NUS’s contribution to global debate on responsible technology. Hosted at CIL and supported by the Singapore National Commission for UNESCO, the Chair will advance research on legal frameworks for accountable AI, explore AI’s environmental impact and support capacity building through policy engagement, conferences and open-access resources. Based in Singapore, the initiative will convene partners across Asia and the Global South to promote fair, sustainable and internationally coherent AI governance aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Chair team joins a global community of more than 10,000 academics and researchers working to advance open knowledge and education through international cooperation.
Dr Truby is also Chair of the International Law Association Committee on AI and Technology Law and an expert member of the OECD.AI Expert Group on AI Compute and Climate.
