On 1 December 2022, Professor Joseph Weiler received the Ratzinger Prize from Pope Francis at the Vatican. Professor Weiler is the first person of the Jewish faith to receive this prestigious award that honours scholars who demonstrate authentic and meaningful contributions to theology, Christianity, and human society.

Professor Weiler has examined, inter alia, the relationship between faith and legal reasoning, juridical positivism, and the tensions arising from unfettered individual rights. He also teaches a course, The Trial of Jesus in Western Legal Thought, at the NUS Law School.
